The Space City Rocketry Team Leads are committed to increasing the presence of aerospace engineering on UH campus. Below are the SCR Team Leads for the 2026-2027 term.
John Menger
Project Manager
John (he/him) is a mechanical engineering student at the University of Houston and a U.S. Army veteran, where he worked in satellite communications. As a part of Space City Rocketry, he is the Project Manager and is helping to grow the team into exciting new fields. He’s especially interested in extraplanetary exploration, Dungeons & Dragons, and science fiction novels. He plans to enter the aerospace engineering field after graduation.
Jake Rodriguez
Chief Engineer
Jake (he/him) is a junior electrical engineering student with a passion for building things and electrical design. He joined AIAA-UH in 2023, transitioning to a lead role for the avionics sub-team in 2024 and currently acts as the Chief Engineer for Space City Rocketry. Fun fact: Jake has a Bachelor’s degree in music education.
Matthew Herrera
Systems Engineer
Matthew (he/him) is a senior mechanical engineering student with a passion for problem solving. He joined SCR in 2023 and became propulsion STL in 2024. He is now the Systems Engineer.
Nathan Samuell

Propulsion STL
Lance (he/him) is a senior mechanical engineering student with a passion for problem solving. He joined SCR in 2025 and became propulsion STL in Spring 2026.
Henry Tran
Propulsion STL
Henry (he/him) is a junior chemical engineering major with a minor in aerospace. He joined Space City Rocketry in 2025 on the Recovery team and currently serves as the Propulsion Lead. He is adaptable and has a passion for learning new technical tools.
Reuben Bishop
Recovery STL
Reuben (he/him) is a sophomore in mechanical engineering who loves to try his hand at anything and everything. He joined SCR in 2025 as a freshman and has now transitioned into the Recovery STL role. Fun fact: Reuben loves to beatbox!
Salma Cheta
Structures STL
Salma (she/her) is a junior mechanical engineering student. She joined SCR in 2024 and is now a Structures Co-STL. Fun fact: Salma’s recently started a small comic book collection”
Hector Umana
Structures STL
Hector (he/him) is a junior mechanical engineering student with a passion for aerospace design. He joined AIAA-UH in 2024, and currently acts as the primary Structures Colead for Space City Rocketry.
